Tax
Advisory

Proactive advisory services that anticipate regulatory changes and position your finances ahead of the curve, not behind it.

Advisory is the work done before the return, while a decision can still change. A sale, a move, a retirement, a new law: we project the tax effect of each path in figures you can compare, so you decide with the numbers in hand.

The Scope

What the work
covers

  • Multi-year tax projections

Models of this year and the next few, with income, deductions and estimated payments laid out so you can compare paths.

  • Major event planning

The sale of a business or property, a home sale, a large bonus or equity vesting, an inheritance, or a move to another state.

  • Retirement decisions

Distribution timing, Roth conversions, and retirement plan options for the self-employed, such as SEP IRAs and solo 401(k) plans.

  • Owner compensation and entity strategy

The balance of salary and distributions for S corporation owners, and when a change of entity is worth considering.

  • Charitable giving strategy

Bunching gifts, donor-advised funds, and qualified charitable distributions from IRAs for those who are eligible.

  • Legislative change briefings

What new tax law means for your plan, explained in plain language once the rules are settled.

  • Estimated payments and safe harbors

Quarterly payment plans built around the IRS safe-harbor rules for underpayment penalties, revisited as the year unfolds.

  • A second look at prior returns

A review of recent returns for missed credits or deductions while the window to amend is still open, generally three years from filing.

Your engagement letter sets the exact scope. The descriptions on this page are general information, not tax advice for your situation.

The Client

Who it is for

  • Business owners planning a sale, an expansion or a succession
  • Professionals with stock options, RSUs or large bonuses
  • People within a few years of retirement
  • Anyone facing a major event this year: marriage, divorce, a move, an inheritance
  • Clients who want their plan revisited during the year, not only at filing time

The Engagement

How an engagement
works

Five steps, the same for every client. Your documents never travel by email, and nothing is filed until you have reviewed and signed.

  1. Consultation

We start with the decision in front of you and the questions you need answered, and agree on scope in an engagement letter.

  2. Documents through the secure portal

You upload recent returns and the documents behind the decision (offers, agreements, statements) to your secure portal.

  3. Preparation

Your preparer builds the projections in our professional tax software, modeling each path side by side.

  4. Review

The analysis is reviewed before it reaches you, then we meet to walk through the figures and the tradeoffs.

  5. Decision

You confirm the path you choose, and the projections stay on file in your portal for the return that follows.

Documents to gather

Upload them in your secure client portal once we begin, from a phone camera or a computer. Please never send tax documents by email.

  • Your last two or three years of returns
  • Current-year pay stubs or a year-to-date profit and loss statement
  • The documents behind the decision: offer letters, purchase agreements, equity grants
  • Retirement and brokerage account statements
  • A list of the questions you want answered
